Key Historical & Archival Findings (based on interviews and unconfirmed evidence)

  • Established in 1964: 1st Elanora Group was raised in late 1963 and was officially registered on 25th March, 1964. It was originally located in Elanora Heights (site of present Methodist church) before hall was burnt in the bush fire

  • Destruction of Records: The 1980s fire destroyed most, if not all, of the group's early records, leaving them with limited knowledge of their original formation date or the construction date of their first hall
  • Relocation: Following the bushfire in Jan 1994, the group rebuilt the hall at its current site in Bilarong Reserve (between Wakehurst Parkway and the northern side of Narrabeen Lagoon). A termite infestation lead the council to refurbish the hall in 2019.

  • Historical Activities: Records from the NSW Scout Air Activity Centre mention a member from 1st Elanora Heights (A. Cole) participating in the first official Air Activities Day on June 4, 1972
